The Story

My name is Mike Padrick and I LOVE wine...OK, skiing and loud music
too.  However, I'm too old to beat Bode Miller and too tone deaf to play in the band.  So, instead, I pursue my passion for wine...

I was lucky enough to meet Brian Loring during a tasting at Larkspur
(a restaurant in Vail, Colorado) where I was working as a server.
It was one of those moments when one is thinking about
a change and it walks right through the door.  After hearing Brian's story, how he made the transition from software engineer to winemaker, I found myself inspired.  I then approached
Brian about checking out harvest.  Brian graciously
invited me to the '05 harvest--knowing most people never come.

I was that "some guy", at least that was the preface he
used when he told his sister Kimberly that I was on the
way (she had heard this before) but I came, I stayed,
and one week became two months.  It has been surreal ever
since and I've not yet felt my feet on the ground.

Now what started as a curious visit has turned into a
grand opportunity...the opportunity to work with
Brian and Kimberly Loring, learning their
craft and starting my own label P2.

The Name

P2...the two Ps stand for Passion and Perseverance.
These are the things that brought me to this place.
Passion sets a course and
Perseverance achieves the end.

I have a unique situation with P2...A small production
winery housed in the larger Loring winery.  This
affords me the luxury of growing based solely on
opportunities for sourcing premium fruit.  I believe that great wine
comes only from great fruit (Loring lesson #1).  This has
now become my philosophy.  Staying small and
remaining at the Loring winery allows me to remain pure
in the pursuit of my philosophy.  Seeking out great
vineyards, both new and old, run by people who share my
passion and philosophy.

I am already off to a great start with fruit from two exceptional sources: Brosseau Vineyards and the Cargasacchi Jalama Vineyard.
I can only hope the future will shine as brightly.

Thanks for taking the time to checkout P2, I hope you
will return often and join me on this fabulous adventure.

Cheers!

Mike
